Background

The Communications, Campaigns and Digital department is responsible for representing the internal and external messaging of maritime trade union Nautilus International.

Job Role

The one-year internship is an exciting opportunity for a creative and hardworking digital-savvy individual looking for a well-rounded introduction to professional communications.

The Communications Assistant will support the wider team. You can expect to gain hands-on experience in internal and external comms, social media marketing, PR and podcasting, plus video recording and production for YouTube. No coffee-making required!

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage social media accounts: assist the communications team to build social communities for Nautilus members
  • Create digital content: from videos and podcasts to news, features, interviews and any other content as required
  • Attend and report: on trade union and maritime industry events as required
  • Handle incoming email communications: directing them to the most appropriate team member
  • Support colleagues: including researching, filming, writing, editing, creating and posting content on social media, online and in print, as required
  • Perform any other duty as directed by the Communications Manager

Ideal Experience, Attitude and Interests

  • Digitally savvy and deeply embedded in social media platforms
  • Experience with video and/or audio recording and editing
  • Graduate level (or equivalent) education or training with interest in social media, communications or journalism
  • Knowledge or experience of Content Management Systems (CMS)
  • Excellent timekeeping
  • You are a confident go-getter with a 'can-do' attitude
  • Interest in learning about the maritime industry
  • Interest in the Trade Union movement
