£28,200 - £32,280 – the band minimum is the normal starting pay for those new to a role. In exceptional circumstances, when relevant skills and experience can be identified, a higher starting salary may be considered.

British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for an exceptional Cook/Steward to join the crew of the RRS Sir David Attenborough. BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. We employ experts from many different professions to carry out our Science as well as keep the lights on, feed the research and support teams and keep everyone safe!

You’ll be joining our close knit team of the RRS Sir David Attenborough as it carries out scientific research across the polar regions. The ship is world leading in its scientific capabilities and regularly carries out science trials across the world with a driven focus on the Antarctic regions.
Within the role, there will be an opportunity to develop role specific skills to compliment your time on the ship. There will also be standard training provided that is specially developed for Polar travel.
Some of your main responsibilities will include:
- To undertake the duties allocated by the Purser.
- To assist in the preparation of cold dishes, salads for the chiller counter. The preparing of Vegetables and other food preparations required by the chief cook.
- Where appropriate, to act as night cook during 24 hour catering operations.
- To assist in the preparations serving of buffets and dinner/ catering functions as required.
