The Job Description
Our Junior Systems Technician operate within both Cable & Subsea Operations Department. The role is a sea-going position where you can expect to be mobilised to a cable ship in various locations around the world for approximately 8-week commissions dependent on project requirements.
You will have the opportunity to obtain a range of training to enable you to develop and progress within both departments. Areas of involvement will include ROV Pilot/maintenance, UJ jointer training, and basic IT skill training.
The actual work from project to project may be in the fields of undersea telecommunications cable, submarine power cable or within oil and gas sector.
Graduates are welcomed – training will be provided.
Main Responsibilities
To complete both Subsea and jointing competencies as specified within the training logbooks. To study and become competent in the main duties of a System Technician once promoted. In this position you can expect to:
- Piloting (under supervision) the submersible and carrying out submersible tool handling procedures
- Familiarity with pre and post dive checks, on deck servicing, fault-finding and preventative maintenance.
- Familiarity with GM submersible operating procedures
- Familiarity with principles of all safety aspects of the submersible and umbilical handling systems
- Knowledge of submersible electrical power and safety precautions
- Log operational data and be familiar with the format
- Following procedures for drawing and recording usage of stores.
- Familiarity with duties relating to company procedures, policies, work permits and instructions, particularly in respect of the Code of Safe Working Practices, Company Safety and Environmental policy
- Performance of optical fibre jointing including radiography to required specifications
- Perform maintenance and testing on all jointing and x-ray equipment
- Assisting in control of all onboard x-ray materials, tooling, consumables and piece part kits.
- Undertake watch-keeping duties in cable working areas and operations control room as and when required
- Testing of all stock cable
- Perform practice joints as per company quality control requirements.
Certification Requirements:
- ENG1 medical or equivalent
- US C1D visa (if available)
- Valid passport
- Fully vaccinated (COVID)
- Discharge book (if available)
- STCW basic training (if available)
Personal Requirements
- The role requires initiative, passion for the maritime industry, communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team and independently when required. Experienced gained in engineering with a strong electrical/mechanical background is desirable.
- Willingness to work on-board a sea-going cable ship on rotation.
Academic Requirements
- HNC / HND or degree qualification in Electrical/Electronic engineering or similar qualifications in a related area.
- A time served apprentice with a recognised qualification in an appropriate engineering subject such as NVQ Level 3 / HNC / HND is preferred but qualifications, skills and suitable experience below this will be taken into account.
