The Royal Yacht Britannia
Position: Maintenance Team (Experienced seafarer with extensive knowledge of ship maintenance)
Salary: £32,000 (Rising to £33,500 after probationary period)
Full Time Appointment
Location: Leith, Edinburgh
Closing Date: Open Ended

The Royal Yacht Britannia is an award-winning five-star visitor attraction and exclusive events venue in Edinburgh. The 160-strong team on board is committed to delivering the same standards of excellence expected when Britannia was in service.

Britannia provides an exceptional experience for visitors. This dedication to excellence has led to the Royal Yacht being rated as Tripadvisor’s No.1 UK Visitor Attraction (AGAIN) 2023-24, and the top 1% in the world in its category.

Britannia’s Maintenance department, which consists of skilled engineers and qualified trade staff, oversees the preservation of this iconic vessel, our luxury floating hotel, Fingal Hotel, and a flotilla of small boats. They provide an essential and invaluable support to all other departments.

The Maintenance team has a vacancy for a candidate who is happy to spend all day undertaking tasks within their discipline, assisting with other maintenance tasks as part of the team, and providing general support to the other trading departments in the company.

An experienced seafarer with extensive knowledge of ship maintenance would be an ideal addition to our team. For experienced sailors, there is an opportunity to sail/crew the Racing Yacht Bloodhound.

The successful candidates must be physically fit, have a flexible can-do attitude, a good sense of humour, and be willing to carry out a variety of maintenance tasks as part of a small team.

The role involves working 40 hours per week over four days on a rota that includes some evenings and weekends.

Company benefits include:

  • 10% employer pension contribution with a choice to contribute up to a further 5% yourself, which would then be matched by us as well! (So, 20% potential contribution to your pension)
  • 6.6 weeks/33 days pro-rata, annual holiday entitlement (one week/5 days pro-rata more than statutory minimum)
  • Life Assurance
  • Performance & loyalty payment scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Complimentary tickets
  • Staff discount (Britannia Gift Shop, Royal Deck Tearoom and The Lighthouse Restaurant & Bar aboard Fingal Hotel)
  • Free car parking for staff.

This role would be ideal for someone looking to make the move from a seagoing position to a shore-based role.

Our Maintenance team consists of ex-Royal Navy seafarers, dockyard joiners and electricians,  and experienced maintenance personnel.

A candidate with additional experience in welding and metalwork would be desirable but not essential.

If you feel you have the personality, skills, and experience we are looking for, we would love to hear from you.

Please send your CV and a covering letter outlining why you feel you would be suitable for the role to: recruitment@tryb.co.uk or postal applications to:
