Marine Manager

Marine Manager in Maritime Law Firm, London

Stann Law Ltd are looking to recruit a new Marine Manager to join their busy London based team of lawyers and mariners. The successful applicant will have experience working on vessels carrying wet or dry cargoes and will preferably hold a Master Mariner’s Certificate of Competency. Container ship and/or tanker experience is preferred, but not essential. Command experience is not essential and previous experience in the legal industry is not required as full training to perform the role will be given.

The role includes:

1. Marine casualty investigation;
2. Interviewing crews in the aftermath of a marine casualty and preparing detailed and accurate witness statements and reports;
3. VDR and AIS analysis; and
4. Legal proceedings support.

The role is office based in central London but with regular travel to clients’ vessels.

The Company:

Stann are a law firm based in the City of London specialising in shipping law, also with an office in Singapore. Their clients include major shipowners, ship managers and insurers, who rely on Stann to assist them in relation to all manner of maritime incidents, including collisions, groundings, fires, salvage incidents and many other matters. The firm employs a mix of lawyers and Master Mariners to allow them to respond quickly to developing emergencies.

Requirements:

The successful applicant will:

• Have experience sailing on container ships, tankers or other cargo ships;

1. Preferably hold a Master Mariner’s Certificate of Competency;
2. Have excellent written English;
3. Have excellent attention to detail and analytical skills; and

• Be capable of working in a fast paced team of lawyers and other former mariners.

The role is an excellent opportunity for someone currently in a sea-going role looking to make the move ashore or someone already established ashore.
