Nautilus Council Member

Do you want to create a better workplace for you and your colleagues? Would you like to set the agenda at Nautilus, and help to drive our work on behalf of seafarers? Are you interested in growing your personal and professional network?

If so, Nautilus Council is the right place for you!

As a Council member at a democratic union, you will ensure Nautilus's work is relevant and representative of the interests of our 20,000 members across the UK, Netherlands and Switzerland. You will scrutinise the activities of the Union, receiving reports from each of the Union's departments and taking key strategic decisions that will define our future.

The Council is also the Trustee of the Nautilus Welfare Fund, a registered charity administered by the Union which supports retired seafarers and their dependants.

The total time commitment is approximately 10 days, spread across the year. All council members are volunteers, elected by other eligible full members of the Union, but you'll receive full training – so if you have never sat on a council before this is a great opportunity to learn. You will also receive full expenses for travel, accommodation, and subsistence.

Council meets three times per year, with the ability to attend both online and in person. Members typically cannot attend every meeting due to work commitments, therefore attendance at every meeting is not compulsory.

A union is only as strong as its members. Council elections are an opportunity for you to get involved, and build the future of Nautilus International.
