400,000 steps challenge raises funds for those hit by crew change crisis

28 June 2021

Seafarers stranded by the Covid-19 crew change crisis will get a helping hand from a new fundraising walk-a-thon in July organised by The Seafarers' Charity.

Supporters are urged to take up the challenge to walk 400,000 steps (that's 13k steps a day) from 1 to 31 July in support of seafarers who have been stranded by the pandemic and their families.

The goal reflects the 400,000 seafarers around the world stranded due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Many are still in crisis, far away from family, missing out on key life events and struggling with isolation and loneliness, says the charity.

Those signing up to take part also get a free Seafarers' Charity t-shirt and can track their walks using a pedometer, smart watch or on their smart phones, and keep a tally on the Challenge calendar. There is no minimum fundraising target.

To sign up, register for the 400,000 steps walk and then create your fundraising page either via Virgin Money Giving or Just Giving.

Fundraisers can also join the official Walk 400,000 Steps in July Challenge group here.
