Nominations are still being sought for the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea, which includes a period of the early months of the coronavirus pandemic, but submissions need to be made by 15 April 2020.

The purpose of the award is to provide a unique, international recognition of individuals or groups of individuals who, at risk to their own life, perform acts of exceptional bravery in attempting to save life at sea or in attempting to prevent or mitigate damage to the marine environment.

The act of bravery recognised in the 2020 awards must have occurred in the period from 1 March 2019 to 29 February 2020.

Nominations may only be made by IMO Member States, intergovernmental organisations, and/or non-governmental international organisations which have consultative status with the IMO.
