Monaco, Cannes and Antibes: visiting our members!

7 October 2024

September was an incredibly busy month for Nautilus as we attended both the Cannes Yachting Festival and Monaco Yacht Show, but this was a fantastic opportunity to see crew in person and put faces to the names of those we support throughout the year. It was great to see so many of you and discuss your employment experiences and concerns.

Running from 10 to 15 September 2024, the 47th edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival was a great event for crew and industry stakeholders. With 640 exhibiters and 700 boats, both motor and sail, across two marinas, there was a lot of ground to cover.

At the show I visited as many yachts as possible to speak to current and prospective Union members. Nautilus was also pleased to attend the Association of Women in Yachting (AWY) event on 11 September, co-hosted by Yachting Pages and Anna Percival-Harris, managing director of John Percival Marine Associates/Hoylake Sailing School Ltd, a Strategic Partner of Nautilus International. The AWY provides a resource for professional, mostly shore-based, women in the yachting sector to network and surround themselves with like-minded female industry leaders.

Following swiftly after the Cannes yachting festival was the biggest event of the year – the Monaco Yacht Show, which ran from 25 to 28 September in the idyllic setting of Port Hercule.

As with all yachting shows, we endeavour to reach as many crew as possible at the event. However, we also managed to spend some time in the vicinity this year, with a day in Antibes visiting local crew houses and crewing agencies prior to the event.

Nautilus took time to visit the fringe events occurring in and around the show, including an event hosted by Acrew, (who issued captain and crew pick up lunch bags on each day of the event), but who also hosted Yachtie Minds Matter: a mental health seminar with Captain Kelly Gordon and Emma Kate Ross (Seas The Mind). This was an incredibly engaging seminar, attended by crew, Flag state representatives, Marina representatives and ISWAN/ Yacht Crew Help, among many other industry stakeholders.

We were also pleased to attend an evening event for yacht engineering crew to network after the show, which was hosted by our Strategic Partner John Percival Marine Associates/Hoylake Sailing School Ltd in conjunction with Wilsonhalligan.
