Catch up: Nautilus International's General Election manifesto webinars

30 May 2024

Ahead of the general election taking place on 4 July, Nautilus International  launched its manifesto Turning the Tide: A mission to revitalise our nation's maritime sector

The UK has a proud maritime history, but we are failing to live up to the legacy of our past. This is evident from one basic fact: the numbers of UK resident seafarers and UK flagged vessels are at an historic low.

Whoever forms the next government, they must commit to supporting the maritime industry and, crucially, our nation's seafarers. The Union sets out how they can do this in its manifesto.

The Union also held a two-part webinar series, delving into the detail of our manifesto and what we will be campaigning for the next government to do.

Webinar 1

Launching the manifesto, and future proofing skills and training

Tuesday 11 June

This webinar, chaired by Nautilus director of communications, campaigns and digital Helen Kelly and led by Nautilus general secretary Mark Dickinson, will give an overview of the manifesto and will discuss the key policies needed on skills and training.

Webinar 2

Full protections for maritime employment, creating a stronger domestic industry, and UK leadership internationally on social and employment rights

Thursday 13 June

This webinar, chaired by Nautilus director of communications, campaigns and digital Helen Kelly and led by Nautilus director of organising Martyn Gray detailed on our plans for more robust employment protections, fair wages and decent conditions, plus the need to grow our domestic industry and secure good jobs in areas like offshore renewables. It considered the scope for cabotage and how the UK can be a leader internationally on social and employment rights for seafarers.
