Nautilus member to take on cycle challenge

30 April 2018

A Nautilus member is swapping the water for two wheels in a bid to raise money for The Marine Society and Sea Cadets.

Bari Khan will be cycling the Prudential London-Surrey 100 bike challenge on 29 July 2018 with the aim of raising £650 for the maritime charity.

It’s the second year Bari has supported the Marine Society and Sea Cadets, having ridden from London to Paris over three days during 2017.

Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 will see participants cycle 100 miles starting from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London before leaving the city and heading into Kingston-upon-Thames in Surrey. Cyclists will then return to the capital via Leatherhead and Oxshott before finishing on The Mall back in central London.

'I greatly support the work of the Marine Society and Sea Cadets,' explained Bari. 'I cycled London-to-Paris last year to raise money for MSSC to continue to help seafarers and young persons.

'I intend to return to sea at some point in the next year or so, from my short time shore-side, so when the opportunity to ride the hugely popular London Surrey 100 was presented by the Sea Cadets I did not hesitate to sign-up. I try and make the most of the opportunities now as they may only come around again when I am in the middle of the ocean!

'Any help to raise money and meet the fundraising target from the maritime and wider community is greatly appreciated, as every effort goes to making and sustaining our wonderful maritime community.'

Bari is one of numerous Nautilus members who undertakes charity challenges and the Union is urging others to get in contact with it to allow Nautilus to support them in their activities.

'It’s great to hear from our maritime professionals when they take part in charity events such as this,’ stated Nautilus strategic organiser Danny McGowan. ‘If you’re taking part in something you think other members might be interested in, join the Nautilus Facebook group and tell us all about it.'
