Nautilus International's head of industrial Micky Smyth visited members employed by CalMac onboard the new long-awaited Scottish lifeline ferry the MV Glen Sannox on 19 February 2025.
The ship visit was part of a round trip from Troon/Brodick/Troon, which gave Mr Smyth the chance to meet members face to face to discuss issues important at CalMac Ferries.
The Glen Sannox is the first dual-fuel ferry built in the UK capable of running on both marine gas oil (MGO), a form of diesel, and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
'During the visit, we discussed the issues regarding the delays in the building of the Glen Sannox since her keel (801) was laid in 2016, and we are extremely glad she has finally come on service to provide a lifeline service to the people of Arran,' said Mr Smyth.
'I also discussed members' issues, such as the new Clyde and Hebrides Ferry Services contract (CHFS3), and the current problems for Scottish seafarers receiving health provisions and care at the Dreadnought Unit.'
The Glen Sannox vessel will be going to drydock to undertake essential maintenance, which is normal for a new build to resolve snagging issues, added Mr Smyth who thanked all onboard the vessel for their hospitality during the visit.
