Snap and win by telling your seafaring story

17 July 2024

Do you have a story to tell about your life at sea as a deck officer, engineering officer, or onboard services crew?

Life at Sea 2024, the latest ITF Seafarers' Trust photography competition – open to all serving seafarers – is your chance to visually express that narrative with your most striking shots. At the same time, you can help wipe a little dust off the lens of the public's 'sea blindness' through snaps of what your duties onboard look like, whatever your rank.

If you're a seafarer but haven't been able to join a ship in 2024 don't despair – the Trust still wants to hear from you too. Just send in meaningful shots of the life of a seafarer ashore.

Your reflections onboard or ashore can also win you a £1,000 prize for the best photograph,if submitted before the closing date of 15 August 2024.

This year's competition was launched on 25 June, during the annual Day of the Seafarer celebrations, the Trust invites seafarers to share their most striking photographs of the good times, the bad times and ordinary day-to-day of life onboard.

Now celebrating its fifth anniversary, the photo competitions have provided maritime with a remarkable photographic archive with which to promote awareness of the essential work of seafaring.

At exhibitions in the IMO, the National Maritime Museum Greenwich, UK, the U.S.S. Constitution Museum, Boston, USA, and touring exhibitions in the Philippines and Germany, the seafaring life has been proudly shared far and wide. To celebrate its anniversary the competition will feature in an exhibition showcasing all the winners at the Rotterdam Maritime Museum. Winning entries will be announced on World Maritime Day, Thursday 26 September 2024.
