UK Merchant Navy Medal nominations invited for 2025

27 February 2025

Nominations are now invited for 2025's Merchant Navy Medal, a prestigious UK state honour recognising exceptional contributions by maritime professionals to their industry.

The annual medal, awarded for meritorious service, celebrates seafarers who set an outstanding example to others by going above and beyond in their roles. It also pays tribute to seafarers who are the backbone of a nation, playing a crucial role in keeping economies moving and supply chains intact.

A maximum of up to 20 awards can be made each year by the UK Department for Transport, and nominations can be received for anyone serving (or who has served) in the UK Merchant Navy or Fishing Fleets. Nominations can be made at any time, but noone can nominate themselves, and nominees should not be told in advance. To be considered for the 2025 award, entries need to be submitted by 31 May 2025.

Those completing the MNM nomination form will need to provide:

  • a description of what the person has done to deserve the medal
  • letters of support from at least 2 other people who know the nominee professionally
  • personal and contact information for the person being nominated
  • employment details for the person being nominated
