Sascha Meijer, assistant general secretary and chair RLE NL
Sascha Meijer is assistant general secretary for cross-boundary maritime trade union Nautilus International. Based in the Rotterdam branch office, she is also chair of the legal board for the Netherlands branch.
Sascha is assistant general secretary based in the Rotterdam office, appointed as part of the Union's leadership succession planning. She is also chair (voorzitter) of the Executive Board of the Residual Legal Entity NL (RLE), which is the separate legal board of the NL branch.
Biography
Sascha joined Nautilus nine years ago. She is now assistant general secretary based in the Rotterdam office, appointed as part of the Union's leadership succession planning. She is also chair (voorzitter) of the Executive Board of the Residual Legal Entity NL (RLE), which is the separate legal board of the NL branch.
She took over as chair of the RLE from former seafarer and retiring deputy general secretary Marcel van den Broek, after his 19 years of dedicated service. The new board of the RLE now consists of Marcel, Sascha, Richard Moti – newly elected executive officer taking on the role of penningmeester (treasurer) and the Union's general secretary, Mark Dickinson.
Sascha previously worked as a trade union lawyer. She switched from working at the FNV union in the Netherlands to Nautilus International in 2015, starting out as a senior national secretary until her election to the NL board in 2017 when she became one of the Union's executive officers. She was elected as vice chair of the main NL Board in 2017, and has now taken over as the first female chair of the Nautilus NL Board.
As part of the NL Board Sascha is a support to many colleagues in the Dutch office. They can always go to her for advice.
Besides being a Board member, Sascha also works as a negotiator on several collective bargaining agreements. She always makes sure to be in close contact with lay reps during negotiations.
