Themes debated during the week by policy-makers from the main EU institutions, ship owners and industry representatives, were that 'digitisation and modernisation are indispensable' for the future of the maritime sector.
Nautilus general secretary Mark Dickinson, was one of 36 industry speakers from across Europe presenting at the 2017 conference held in Brussels from Monday 27 February to Friday 3 March 2017.
On Tuesday 28 February Mr Dickinson spoke at the ETF seminar 'Seafarers matter: for a fair shipping sector in Europe'. He also joined a panel debating global trends affecting shipping.
Key trends in the digitalisation of maritime transport, as well as the safety and environmental aspects of cyber systems in shipping were addressed. Maritime careers were in the spotlight with a seminar on employment, labour rights and training in shipping.

European Shipping Week is the brainchild of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) and the inaugural event in 2015 was run by a Steering Group made up of Europe’s main shipping organisations as well as the European Commission and Shipping Innovation.
