Benefits of Nautilus membership highlighted to cruise job seekers

Seeking work in the passenger shipping sector? You are invited to meet Nautilus organisers and learn more about the benefits of joining the Union at the annual London Cruise Job Fair being held on 22 May 2017.

Building on the success of previous job fairs in London, Berlin and Liverpool, the London event  is one of three to be held across the UK and Germany throughout the year by online maritime job board specialist Webix Ltd.

Senior assistant organiser Danny McGowan and other officials will be on hand at the Union’s stall at the London Business Design Centre, to meet members and potential new crew, and provide information on what Nautilus does for members.

Writing in a guide for CruiseShipJobs, Mr McGowan says the role of unions in the maritime industry continues to be as important as ever, and not simply because working in a unionised workplace can increase earnings by nearly 10%.

‘Working at sea – whether you are on a cruiseship or large yacht, a containership, naval auxiliary vessel, tanker or a ferry, for example – earnings are a big part of your employment. But that is not the only thing that Nautilus International and other trade unions assist with. Your safety, welfare and the success and development of your career is of equal importance,’ he explained.

‘Nautilus International played a major part in helping to create the Maritime Labour Convention, and members can benefit from the added protection and advice that their Union can provide them with thanks to this important development.’

Mr McGowan reminded members they also have access to the Nautilus Jobs board and its careers advice section as a resource, in addition to the specialist jobs boards for the cruise and superyacht sector run by Webix.

This year’s Cruise Job Fair events will also include specialist ‘meeting zones’, where potential applicants can find information on correct routes for applying, training, and interviewing techniques.
