Nautilus International’s first women and young workers’ forums for 2017 address twin themes of being ‘bold for change’ towards a gender equal maritime industry, and being active in your Union.
Women members are invited to register to attend the Union’s Women’s Forum being held in London to mark International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March. This year’s international #BeBoldForChange theme follows on from the 2016 #PledgeForParity campaign which committed to help women and girls achieve their ambitions.
The World Economic Forum predicts, depressingly, that the global gender gap won’t close entirely until 2186 — but the #BeBoldForChange campaign says 170 years is too long to wait. The campaign is encouraging women to host events highlighting their own career developments, and share support on social media, as well as securing executive statements of support from business and community leaders.
Nautilus is also inviting members to attend its Young Maritime Professionals Forum being held between 7 to 9 April during the New Generation Festival organised by the General Federation of Trade Unions in Leicestershire. The annual event is aimed at younger workers seeking to find out more about the trade union movement and its importance at home and overseas.
Members are encouraged to participate in the Union’s governance and policy-making processes by signing up for its Forums.
